Interstate Hotels & Resorts, the international arm of Aimbridge Hospitality, has been named as the management company responsible for running the Mercure Newport hotel in Wales.
Interstate has been signed by owners Garrison Barclay Estates to operate the new hotel in central Newport, set to open in the first quarter of 2022.
David Anderson, executive vice president – international at Interstate Hotels & Resorts, said: “The Mercure Newport is part of an exciting development right in the heart of the city centre, converting one of the area’s most prominent buildings – the Chartist Tower – into a travel, leisure and business destination.
“The hotel is in a great location, with the city’s many amenities within walking distance, and transport links within easy reach, too.”
The 15-storey Mercure Newport hotel forms part of a multimillion-pound redevelopment of the Chartist Tower – the tallest building in the city.
More than 130 guest rooms are planned for the hotel, as well as a dedicated meeting floor, and extensive food and beverage facilities including a restaurant with an outside rooftop terrace area.
The wider development of the building will also see 30,000 sq ft of office space and 18,000 sq ft of retail space created.
David added: “This is a major development for the city of Newport and we’re proud to be playing our part in it, working with the hotel’s owners and developers to bring this new hotel to life.”
