In our latest blog, Stephen Roach, our Vice President for Food and Beverage, gives us an insight into what British Food Fortnight means to Interstate Hotels & Resorts and how British food is incorporated into menus across the hotel portfolio, not just for this activity but all year round.

Held in the autumn at the same time as harvest festival, British Food Fortnight is the biggest annual, national celebration of British food and drink. Since its beginnings in 2002, British Food Fortnight has become the opportunity for those who work in any aspect of food and drink, to come together and promote the benefits of buying and eating from our home produced British larder.

And here at Interstate Hotels & Resorts we are delighted to be embracing the event once more!

It’s a fantastic opportunity for our highly talented chefs up and down the country to showcase what they can do. It really gives them a chance to bring exceptional British flavours and creativity to the forefront and provide our guests with something a little bit different from our usual offering.

During this period I always talk to our chefs about producing top quality, locally and nationally sourced food that helps bring back memories for our customers. Whether that be steak and kidney pudding, chip shop fish and chips or treacle pudding and custard and a delicious Yorkshire pudding, we want our guests to really feel at home and comforted by what we have on our menus.

However, despite us having an extra focus on British themed options during Food Fortnight, knowing the provenance of our food and produce is already strongly part of our DNA and actively encouraged at all times. Providing fresh, regional products is imperative for us and forms the basis of everything we stand for when it comes to creating our dishes and giving our customers what they want.

It’s important to us that our chefs are encouraged to celebrate British heritage whenever they can but British Food Fortnight really gives them the chance to experiment a bit more and it’s something that our customers really enjoy.

Happy British Food Fortnight!
