Aimbridge Hospitality EMEA’s history started over 50 years ago in the U.S, when Interstate Hotels & Resorts was founded. The portfolio grew to over 500 hotels before merging with Aimbridge Hospitality in 2019, creating a global leader in third-party hotel management services across a broad spectrum of franchised branded full service, select service, extended stay and lifestyle hotels. Aimbridge’s premium portfolio represents over 1,500 properties in 50 states and 23 countries.

1960s - 1970s

1960s

In 1960, we began with a single motel in Pennsylvania. We first expanded to develop and operate Howard Johnson properties throughout the state.

1970s

In the early 1970s, we began our long partnership with Marriott. By the end of the decade, we owned and operated four hotels with 1,800 rooms across four states.

1980s - 1990s

1980s

Our growth skyrocketed to new levels in the 1980s, with new offerings including new-build hotel project management, interior design and FF&E services. We opened and managed The Charles Hotel in Cambridge, Massachusetts and as the decade came to a close, we operated 25 hotels in partnership with Marriott.

1980s

We created relationships with other prominent hotel companies, leading to an extraordinary 29 hotels with more than 10,300 rooms in 15 states in our portfolio.

1990s

We began the decade by forming our Crossroads Hospitality select-service division, which quickly doubled its portfolio. Then, our Initial Public Offering expanded our scope and prominence in the financial markets. We were subsequently acquired and returned to being a privately-held company.

By the end of the decade, 230 hotels were under our management, including the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City.

2000s

2000s

We expanded our hotel management portfolio in Moscow and entered the United Kingdom marketplace with three boutique hotels in London. We also expanded our footprint to Mexico, India, Belgium and Ireland.

2000s

In the U.S., our Crossroads Hospitality division began its relationship with the Aloft brand. Additionally, we grew our family of affiliated companies with a management portfolio of 13 hotels for the Blackstone Group L.P., one of the world’s premier private equity investment firms.

Interstate assumes management of Summit Hotel Properties’ 65-hotel portfolio.

Interstate assumes management of a 30-hotel portfolio owned by affiliates of Inland American Real Estate Trust.

2011

The Company invests in a 9-hotel portfolio aggregating 1,800 rooms under development in the Netherlands, representing the company’s 10th country of operations.

2011

Interstate acquires Noble Management Group and begins managing 55 properties with over 9,000 rooms throughout the U.S.

2012

The company expands its managed hotel portfolio in India to 13 and signs its tenth hotel management agreement in China.

2013

Interstate establishes a third-party hotel management platform in the United Kingdom, Interstate Hotels & Resorts European division, operating 9 hotels with 5 additional hotels under construction throughout the UK.

2013

Interstate Hotels & Resorts European division acquires Glasgow-based Chardon Management, significantly expanding its footprint in the UK.

2014

Interstate Hotels & Resorts acquires the management agreements of California-based Rim Hospitality Management, increasing the company’s managed portfolio by 75 hotels.

2015

Interstate adds 18 hotels in the United Kingdom.

2016

Interstate Hotels & Resorts is acquired by New York-based Kohlberg & Company, a leading private equity firm.

2018

Interstate acquires the management agreements of 83 properties from White Lodging.

2018

Interstate’s European division announces the addition of 12 new hotels to its European portfolio, including the company’s first entry into France.

2019

Aimbridge Hospitality merges with Interstate Hotels & Resorts creating the global leader in third-party hotel management services with a portfolio of more than 1,400 branded, independent and resort properties in 49 states and 20 countries.

2020

Interstate Hotels & Resorts assumes management of 31 Jupiter Hotels.

2021

Mike Deitemeyer Named President & Chief Executive Officer of Aimbridge Hospitality.

Dave Johnson Assumes Role of Executive Chairman Focused on Transformational Growth.

2021

Aimbridge Hospitality acquires Grupo Hotelero Prisma as its first expansion into Mexico.

Aimbridge Continues to be the Leader in International Expansion Among Third Party Operators with a Presence in Over 20 Countries Globally.

2021

Aimbridge Hospitality acquires Prism Hotels & Resorts. The Dallas-based, award-winning, full-service hotel management, investment and advisory services company.

2022

Aimbridge forms four operating and two geographic divisions to assert global industry expertise and continually add value for owners.
